An Introduction

Ultimate Holding Company (UHC) was a group of creative pioneers and provocateurs operating at the junction of contemporary visual art, engaged design practice and social activism.

The organisation concerned itself with the process of collective production, social solidarity, and the role of artists and designers in creating sustainable communities.

To this end UHC located its practice in collaboration and co-authorship, making work that was characterised by no one specific media or material, but that stood apart through the craftsmanship, warmth and intelligence of its aesthetic. It existed to challenge the status quo by igniting dynamic, creative relationships and exceptional experiences.

Established as a consortium co-operative in Manchester 2002, UHC closed 12 years later on 12th August 2014.
